Athletic Therapy is a rapidly-growing profession in the medical world. Athletic Therapists (ATs) qualify with a Level 8 BSc degree after 4 years of study in university. ATs are experts in the field of musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries. MSK injuries include any injuries to the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, etc. ATs predominantly work with the athletic population, specialising in sporting injuries, but treat all types of MSK injuries.
In clinical settings, ATs carry out assessments, put together a rehabilitation plan and provide treatments like mobilisations, dry needling and sports massage. In pitch-side settings, ATs carry out pre-match care like tapings, strappings and sports massages as well as providing emergency first responder (EFR) and cardiac first responder (CFR) care if needed during the match.
