Hi, my name is James. I am an Athletic Therapist. I graduated from TUS Athlone in 2023 with a BSc in Athletic & Rehabilitation Therapy. Throughout my 4 years I gained both clinical and pitch-side experience. For my college work placement, I spent 3 months in Brescia, Italy working in a successful physiotherapy practice called FranciacortaMed as well as working with professional Legabasketa and EuroLeague Basketball side Pallacanestro Brescia. I was lucky to be a part of therapists that helped these high-level athletes on their way to a historic Legabasketa title that season. Since graduating in 2023, I have completed several courses including Trigger Point Dry Needling, Mat Pilates, SAFE Rugby Level 2, Orthotics Assessment & Prescription.
I have a particular interest in post-operative knee (ACL, total knee replacement, etc) rehabilitation due to having carried out my final year thesis on “Does a previous knee injury impact an athlete’s lower limb power and deceleration ability”. As well as knee rehab, I also have a big interest in lower back injuries due to the high prevalence of lower back pain (LBP) not only in Ireland, but globally. I am a big believer in “movement is medicine” so be prepared to be put through your paces if you come in to me in the clinic!
Outside of work, I like to think I am an active individual! Some of my main hobbies are rugby, golf and running. I am a rugby person, both playing and avidly supporting both Munster and Ireland. I have played rugby since I was 6 years old. I currently play rugby with my local club Dunmanway RFC having previously played Div 2 university rugby for TUS Athlone whilst studying and Serie C rugby with Rugby Oltremella during my college work placement in Italy.
